Singapore – APKEC is a great platform for kids fascinated by the concept of Shark Tank. If unique ideas get them interested and intrigued, read to find out more about Asia Pacific Kid Entrepreneur Championship (APKEC), organized by Kidspreneurship.

Having an entrepreneurial mindset has become as important as basic education itself. Entrepreneurship is no longer a career choice, and it is a way of thinking creatively. It is imperative for every professional to have a mindset that can solve problems creatively.

APKEC has been launched as an online event this year with the idea of giving students a sneak peek into problem-solving, prototyping and pitching business ideas, shark tank style. The idea is not to make kids start a business but to develop their minds to think in an entrepreneurial way.

According to Swati Gauba, Lead Coach at Kidspreneurship, “Kids are fast learners and they need to be exposed to real life problem solving at a very early stage. This event will train students through workshops on creative problem solving, art of pitching and many other important aspects of entrepreneurship. Subsequently they will be allocated real-life challenges and that will give them a chance to think of creative solutions and present their ideas. Eventually the finalists will pitch their ideas to a panel of Jury. Most schools who understand the importance of training students to have an entrepreneurial mindset have been very excited about this initiative.”

The pandemic while raising the uncertainty quotient, has also exposed the lacuna in a few areas in the overall education system worldwide. With children being home bound, the need to channel their minds to more creative and academically profitable pursuits has been the challenge posing every parent. And this is where Kidspreneurship fills the gap with programs to support them with Early Entrepreneurship Education.

Industry stalwarts are being invited to be a part of the Jury as well as Mentorship panel. Kidspreneurship believes in bridging the wide gap between academia and industry.

Ujjwal Sarao has agreed to be a mentor to students. Ujjwal Sarao is the Chief Talent Officer with the Publicis Groupe based in Singapore. She has been successfully working in the upper echelons of talent management across Asia Pacific and has been on the forefront of innovation in the HR industry for over two decades. Ujjwal says, “I am really excited to work as one of the mentors for these young and extremely bright kids. Kidspreneurship is a very interesting initiative and APKEC 2021 will give kids a unique opportunity to experience entrepreneurship at such a young age and develop some valuable life skills. The shark tank approach will not only get these young ones to bring innovation into their thinking but will also hone their confidence and presentation skills. It’s a one of its kind initiative in the region and am looking forward to being a part of it.”

Kshama Alur is part of the Jury panel. She is the Founder + Chief of All Things at indigrow, an early culture learning platform to raise confident and empathetic kids of tomorrow. Kshama has more than 17 years of brand marketing strategy, innovation, and sustainability planning experience.

Dr. Elaine Kim is another esteemed member of our Jury. She is the Co-founder and CEO, CRIB and a medical doctor and entrepreneur. Dr. Elaine is the co-founder and CEO of Trehaus, an integrated co-lifestyle space for families with a preschool, office space/ business club with creche, and family club.  Trehaus School is a Silicon Valley-inspired preschool and childcare that is changing early education, focuses on building character and future skills, and lets parents be present for their children’s learning journey. Elaine added Entrepreneurship is a core skill that we focus on inculcating in the next generation of changemakers at our preschool and childcare, Trehaus School, and as an entrepreneur and investor myself I see first-hand how important it is to nurture an entrepreneurial spirit in our kids, so I think this Kidspreneurship championship is a wonderful initiative I’m honoured to support.

Each entry will be judged on four essential parameters: understanding & defining the problem, uniqueness of the solution, presentation, and overall impact of the idea. There are 5 categories in which winners will be declared – best product/service solution, best technology idea, best eco-friendly sustainable idea, best pitch/presentation, and finally kid entrepreneur of the year.

This competition is open to students in the age group of 8–14 yr-old and residing in Asia Pacific (age as of June 30, 2021). Students can register as a team. Each team can have a minimum of 2 members and a maximum of 4 members. All submissions should be in English. Only one submission per team is permitted. The last date for the entries is 20 August 2021 (23:59 SGT).
