The labor force that works remotely at least once a week has grown by 400% since 2010

September 10, 2021 – As the Covid-19 pandemic ravaged the everyday lifestyle of the entire world at the beginning of 2020, it was inevitable to adopt a remote working culture as much as possible for many businesses as a survival technique. After over a year and a half working from home, it is high time to take a glimpse at the remote working statistics compared to the past years and forecast the future of the trend.

With millennials taking over the job market and the popularization of the digital nomad culture, companies began to relax their strict working from office policies to retain the talent pool. Even though the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic on remote working is not quantified, it is evident that the pandemic has exponentially increased the statistics during the past year, which will then continue to rise. An astounding 62% of workers between the ages 22 and 65 revealed during a survey conducted by Owl Labs that they work from home at least occasionally. In addition, a study conducted by Buffer stated that 44% of the workforce revealed that some of their team members work remotely on a full-time basis. The latter further exposed that 99% of the sample population prefers to work from home at least part-time until they retire.

Above remote working statistics for 2021 do not come as a surprise as GetApp estimated that the number of employees working from home has surged by a staggering 400% since 2010. Besides, Global Workplace Analytics discovered that approximately 56% of the US jobs could be successfully executed at least partially from a remote workstation, which is a positive indication for the 77% of millennials who perceive flexible working opportunities as a productivity booster (Regus).
